History of Naples
Founded by the Greeks in the Vlll century B.C. with the name of Parthenope, it was refounded in the Vl century by oligarchs with the name of Neapolis (new city). Naples has a unique historical background, comparable just to a few others in the world. In here, among other things, we preserve some original things , such as “San Gennaro’s Treasure” which is the richest treasure in the world, as well as”The Farnese collection” , composed of art works among the most important ones in the world, or even “The veiled Christ”, an incredible mysterious sculpture created by Giuseppe Sanmartino.
Besides art and history you can also enjoy the breathtaking scenic tour of the high side of the city; you will enjoy a ride up to the “Historical Center” (the largest in Europe), where you will admire slices of the city daily life, showing also an extraordinary food culture, already visible from the bakeries’ windows with the typical local pastries (sfogliatelle and babà). You can have an enjoyable walk all around restaurants and pizzerias throughout the typical alleys . Naples is also known for being the city where Pizza was born, where Sophia Loren is from, and the city famous for its old musical tradition , the Neapolitan Songs and much much more.
What to see in Naples
Naples offers many things to see, for all budgets and for all types of people. Surely if you are in Naples for a weekend you can organize a visit to Naples 2 days with lots to see. First of all Piazza Plebiscito, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, famous all over the world, which gives a sensation of incredible vastness.
You can not not cross the square blindfolded, do you know the game? The goal is to be able to walk, blindfolded or close your eyes, the square and cross the two statues of Canova. They have succeeded in many and many have failed.
